Our Impact

Our impact mission lies at the heart of our investments and decision making

Impact Themes

Our investments in vehicle electrification projects will accelerate the transition towards clean road transport, improving the health of communities and reducing the strain on our planet. Click on the SDG icon below to learn more.

Climate Action

What’s the problem?

Road transport represents 22% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the Europe. One third of these emissions come from trucks and buses. Taken globally, diesel and petorl-powered commercial fleets represents a significant strain on our fragile planet.

At COP25 in December 2019, electrification of road transport was recognised by leaders around the world as vital in reaching the Paris climate objectives. Vehicle fleets, for the transportation of goods and passengers, represent low-hanging fruit, and have been designated a priority.

How will we address it?

F2CP’s funds will unlock capital by addressing typical barriers to vehicle electrification projects. This will allow commercial fleets to make the transition to greener road transport, with substantially reduced operating emissions.

By targeting commercial fleets, we are accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles at scale. This will further drive down costs and reduce technological uncertainty for later adopters, thus paving the way for a more sustainable transport system.

How will we measure our impact?

We will measure our impact by quantifying the tonnes of greenhouse gases (CO2 eq.) reduced or avoided by our investments.

We expect the $150 million (target) VEFA fund to avoid 2.8 million tonnes of CO2 eq. emmisions, equivilant to planting 23 million trees.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

What’s the problem?

The rapid growth of cities has led to a boom in mega-cities, especially in the developing world. Access to transport and mobility has a significant bearing on earning potential and quality of life, yet most urban centres drastically lack reliable and affortable transport options.

In addition, as urban populations grow, existing transport systems are placed under significant strain. Investment in public transport is required to unlock the increasingly inefficient road transport system and the loss of productivity that ensues.

How will we address it?

F2CP will work alongside municipalities and private partners to electrify public transport and taxi fleets. Our understanding of technology, finance and innovative business models will allow the delivery of transport services at costs that are lower than those currently supplied by incumbent solutions, and reduce the need for private vehicle ownership.

How will we measure our impact?

We will work to determine meaningful and measurable metrics for our contribution to the improved sustainability of cities and communities.

Good Health and Well-being

What’s the problem?

Ambient (outdoor) air pollution kills an estimated 4.2 million people worldwide every year. This mortality is due to exposure to small particulate matter of 2.5 microns or less in diameter, which cause cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and cancers. Over 91% of the global population live in areas where the air quality exceeds WHO guideline limits, with low- and middle-income countries suffering from the highest exposures. Traditional diesel and petrol vehicles are responsible for a significant proportion of emmisions.

How will we address it?

In electrifying typically diesel or petrol powered fleets, F2CP will contribute to the reduction in transport-related pollution. This will reduce the overall levels of particulate matter in urban centres in which we address, thereby reducing the effects on people’s health and well being.

Impact Measurement and Reporting

VAI Capital is committed to sound risk management, responsible operations and to furthering the Paris Objectives and SDGs. To this end, our fund will operate a system of Measuring, Reporting and Verifying (MRV) the climate and sustainable development impact of individual projects and on a portfolio level.

Projects will be developed according to the Sustainable Development Goal Principals, defined by the Gold Standard Foundation (the GS4GG)

Icon Metrics

Impact indicators will be established for individual projects and linked to the SDGs. Project and portfolio performance against these indicators will be reported

Icon Process

Fund processes from identification through to implementation shall also integrate the MRV process

Icon certificate

Compatibility of these processes and project indicators with the GS4GG (and thus with the SDGs) will be certified and adherence to them by the manager and projects thereafter will be audited
